Improved Weapon Customization
Ok, I've had this idea for a little while. It's a huge upgrade to the current system, it would allow you to customize focus items and shields as well as allowing you to name your own weapons.
*Weapon naming: would be an option when customizing your weapon, it would be a skippable step in the process, and obviously the name system would feature similar filters to the character naming system. This would let players feel better about using their home built weapons rather than hunting a fancy green, also it would let players feel more attached to their weapons, making it really feel like it's their character's weapon of choice rather than just having "Customized for <character name>" text in the description (though that text would still be present). Customized named weapons would also be able to be displayed in the HoM; you can show armor why not weapons?
*Customizing Shields and Focuses: would work just like regular weapon customization, giving you the option to name it. The improved functionality would be a +1 or 2 energy for focuses and +1 or 2 armor for shields
This system would essential work the same as it is now with customized weapons having improved functionality but lacking resale value of any kind.

If one of my friends did this, it would be horrendous. I've seen what they type in AB in response to people pinging weapons

People would abuse this and say offensive things etc. to others... also people would try to fool others.. such as calling a common sword something much rarer...

....it's not all about the names (people will abuse it), but customizing weapons could give better bonuses to like hp or energy or armour or etc...I don't care, anything to make it better (personally hoping for + energy!)

I'm not denying people wouldn't abuse the naming feature, but it wouldn't be completely rampant, the naming system for weapons would feature filters and blocks like the character naming system.
as for scamming I don't see much of a problem as no matter what a weapon is named it's stats still speak for themselves, not to mention any named weapon would also be stamped with the "Customized for <x>" text.

a good balance to stop people from spamming their rediculous weapon name would just to be that when they ping it, it would say the original weapon name so people would actually know what kind of weapon they were using.
The naming feature is more for personal satisfaction than anything else, I mean, our characters are heroes after all, don't heroes tend to name their weapons or posessions?
but obviously people want to display their weapon name though, that's where a HoM fix would go, display your customized named weapon and all those who find themselves in your HoM can see it, or you can just open up trade with somone to show off your weapon stats like we've always done.

... For at least some of the reasons that others unsigned: I'm wielding Your Mother
... Sounds like fun. ^_^ Some people are just too stuck up about those things. Sorta like when folks start pinging all the effects they have in the top left of their screen and I will promptly ping "I have Your Mother on me!" ... I've never yet had anyone take offense at that.

God, people, don't you see a way around this?
First, there would be bans on rude words (and possibly on names including mom and mum and mother etc. if need be) and second, when you ping a customised sword it would go something like this: "I'm wielding The Sword Of Ultimate Pwnage (Sundering Wingblade of Fortitude)" where the sundering wingblade part is actually what the weapon actually IS. That way, there would be no way for any scamming to happen - even though the trade window already warns us if a weapon is customised.
